Freshwater mussels are an often overlooked element of freshwater biodiversity, and one of the most threatened. The Brook Floater, only found in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and the Northeastern United States, is listed as “Special Concern” under the Species at Risk Act. Given the decline of this species, it is important to protect our rivers to ensure the health of all freshwater mussels and other aquatic species.
