Our team has just completed the transformation of a stormwater drainage basin into a naturalized retention pond located at the Shediac municipal garage. We added gravel and soil to retain the excess water so it can be absorbed into the soil instead of flowing directly into streams. We also added native plants, such as cattails, to filter pollutants from the parking lot and other paved areas.

Unlike conventional stormwater systems, naturalized retention ponds are living ecosystems that create habitat for wildlife while improving the health of our watershed.
