Last wednesday, our field team spent a good part of the day in the Scoudouc river surveying freshwater mussels with our summer student employees. Essential to the health of our rivers, freshwater mussels play an important role in maintaining water quality. By feeding on plankton and organic particles, a single mussel can filter up to 40 litres of water a day. (Please note that freshwater mussels are not good to eat)
